They do transfer the money but if they are promising you a gift card… forget about it. Been on the phone 5 times since my transfer in December 2022 and still not gotten any gift card. That’s 5 months down the line and still no update. Every time I ring they keep asking me to wait for it. Waste of my time. Be very cautious dealing with this company… completely unprofessional and unlawful. I will not be using this company again.

If I could give no stars I would. I was transferring a large one of sum from euro to pounds. On initial enquiry CD offered rates that were competitive and comparable to other fx companies. This is until your money is in their account. The exchange rate was 0.87 to 0.89 from Dec to Jan and they were consistently quoting me a rate or 0.84-0.85. This was no where near what they should have been offering me.

Suspecting foul play I got some quotes from other company’s and sure enough I was correct and should have been offered a rate closer to 0.87-0.88 for the transaction. I told CD I wasn’t happy and wished to go with another trader and they suddenly offered me a rate of 0.88 when 10 minutes earlier they told me the highest they could offer was 0.85 (have email communication from the account manager if they try to refute this).

I then decided I didn’t wish for them to have my custom and wanted to move my cash to another transfer company which they initially told me was against financial regulations. It’s not and when I asked for proof of such they said it’s in their terms and conditions. It’s not in the terms and conditions I signed and when I asked for their copy of such they were unable to produce such and I am still waiting on this. They then eventually transferred the money as per my request to Key Currency.

Thank goodness Key Currency were so speedy and transparent about their buy/sell rates and offered me a great rate.

Avoid CD at all costs if you are hoping for an honest transaction they will 100% offer you a rubbish rate and attempt to bully you into not transferring your money.

Currencies Direct was recommended to me as I needed to convert quite a lot of money from GBP to EUR to send to Spain. I am so glad I decided to use them as I can't fault them at all for my transaction. Customer service was second to none. Notifications were sent to me by text message and email to advise of any action taken/required. The mobile app and online service are brilliant too. James Elt talked me through the process every step of the way. He was absolutely outstanding. He rang me every week with exchange rate updates and helped me to set up a Limit Order which saved me thousands of pounds as I was lucky that the exchange rate hit my target. Currencies Direct Exchange rates are already much more favourable than bank rates and I did not have to pay a transfer fee either. Thank you so much James and all the staff at Currencies Direct that I dealt with. I will definitely recommend Currencies Direct to family and friends and will certainly be using them again.
